"The Spirit Of The Holiday's"
December 2005
Dear Kula readers,
Here we are getting ready to celebrate the Holidays and welcome in a New Year. 2005 was a year, I will never forget. I've experienced the highs and lows and all the emotions that I know many of my friends and clients have experienced. From major news events such as Hurricanes Katrina, Rita & Wilma, the passing of my Mother to experiencing a new love relationship in my life.
For many people during this time of the year, you find people who are without a family, a home or a job. You'll also find people who are grieving over the loss of loved one as well. We must take the time to acknowlege with unconditional love and compassion, our fellow beings by opening our hearts to those who are less fortunate than ourselves.
Every day, I see people chasing the “American Dream”. They are racing out of the house, (that is mortgaged to the hilt), in the morning off to a job that they hate, in a marriage that they hate (but feel trapped in because of the children and security) fearing the unknown. That's what a major part of life is about. Facing the unknown, yet everyday we do it and we get through it because we are always taken care of by the Universe. Many of us are searching for something to make us happier so we try to buy it, though real happiness comes from within us.
Here is an interesting statistic that a good friend of mine recently sent me in an e-mail.
~Couples spend an average of 12 minutes a day talking to each other
~Typically parents spend 40 minutes a week playing with their kids
~America is #1 in billionaires and #1 in children & elderly living in poverty.
~We are #1 in big homes, and #1 in homelessness
~We are #1 in private consumption and LAST in savings.
Is there any other way?
I believe that there is. I believe that a simpler life is possible and
necessary. As a society we are “stuff’ rich and soul poor. We are
spinning in circles trying desperately to stay ahead of the game and to
keep up with the Jones’s. I think it is time we say, “ENOUGH!”
Simplicity isn’t about being poor and making do, it is about making
conscious life choices that enable you to live a high quality life. It
may be as easy as turning off the television one night, and, instead of
being bombarded by 200 commercials, spending some real time with your spouse. Choosing to buy a board game that you can play with your children instead of the hottest new x-box (that, I promise, will be obsolete NEXT Christmas). Simplifying our time is as important as simplifying our stuff.
Stepping away from society’s ideals on how our lives should be is choosing how to create your own to develop a sustainable life.
My greatest prosperity comes from my family and my dear friends who fill the space with me. My relationships with other people and the knowledge of their love and support make me wealthy. I believe that a rich life is very different from being rich. I have known many millionaires who are not at all rich.
This holiday season I would like to challenge you to really take a good
look around. Make conscious choices regarding where you put your time,
money and life’s energy, buy things that matter instead of just fillers
for a stocking. Remind yourself that it is the love that matters and not
the gifts. Give of yourself this year in some way. A random act of kindness goes a long way. I can give you a long list of random acts of kindness
but I won't because I believe in letting people do what they feel compelled to doing for others.
This is a great quote from John Edward; Psychic Medium
"Remember to appreciate, validate & communicate to those in your life today so a Medium like myself doesn't have to do it for you".
Take the time to hug loved ones and tell them how much you love them.
I wish all of you and your families, much peace, love and blessings during this Holiday Season.
